How does your consignment service work?

First, tell us about your item(s). Be prepared to give us the specifics (from your appraisal or certificate) and we'll tell you how likely a consignment sale is and the approximate amount you'll receive upon the sale. We profit from the difference between what we sell it for and the amount you get paid. You'll approve the consignment amount prior to us beginning our efforts.
Next, we'll arrange to see the diamond(s), either in person or you may wish to ship your diamond to us. After examining it, we'll settle on a fair price. To proceed, a consignment agreement is produced and signed to protect you and authorize us to begin the sales process. All the accounting is fully computerized and tracked daily.
Gorgeous Diamond Ring Created By Washington Diamond
Your item will be photographed, cleaned, polished (if appropriate), described, and cataloged, assigned a unique tracking number and prepared for sale. All of our consignments are cross-checked and verified with the police for security reasons.
Then the fun begins: we go about selling your diamond. This process usually takes less than 90 days and almost always yields an amount higher for you than through other methods. There are no direct costs and no commission fees.
If you have a diamond you no longer want ... don't try to sell it yourself! Let us sell it for you professionally.

How do you sell the majority of the items you receive?

By being effective. Since there is no fee to you, we know we won't make any money unless we make the sale for you. So we get it done. We're not greedy, instead we'd rather make some money than none at all.
We are located in the Washington D.C. area, one of the most affluent areas in the country. We sell millions of dollars worth of diamonds each year. We have proven selling methods that are efficient and effective. We've also made extensive contacts with buyers (consumers, jewelers, dealers) across the country during our 35 years in business. So we may already have buyers waiting to purchase your diamond.
We do ALL the work without the hassles and concerns. This allows us to sell approximately 94% of consigned items within 90 days.

Why don't you charge a percentage or a fee?

Honestly, it's too difficult to do all the calculations. Also, how would you know what you'll receive? We like to keep it simple. You'll know just how much money you get upon the completion of the sale using our method.
We are compensated by keeping the amount received over the amount we have agreed to pay you. Sometimes we make a good amount and sometimes it's not much, but it helps us and it helps you.
We are currently only accepting diamonds over 3/4 carat with certifications from GIA or AGS.

What are your credentials?

What do you consign?

We specialize in BETTER QUALITY CERTIFIED DIAMONDS. We are only interested in diamonds that are:
  • Certified by GIA or AGS Laboratory
  • 3/4 Carat or Larger
  • D, E, F, G, H, I, or J in Color
  • Flawless, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, or SI1 in Clarity
  • Very Good or Excellent Proportions
  • None or Faint Fluorescence

How much money can I get for my item?

Of course that all depends on what you have, but many people have been pleasantly surprised with the amount they are able to receive. You will receive an amount just slightly below the current dealer-to-dealer selling price for a comparable item. The good news is this amount is usually far more than you could get by selling it yourself or to a pawnbroker or on ebay.
There are a large number of risks in trying to sell the item yourself. To be brief, the risks are time, money, lack of a market, lack of knowledge and security, to name a few.
We make it so easy. We do all the work. Expect no hassles when you use our consignment service.

Is appraisal the same thing as 'certification'?

No. We need the detailed and reliable information the independent lab certification provides in order to give you the offer for your diamond. We will be unable to consign your diamond if it is only appraised without a lab certification from either GIA or AGS.

Can you sell my diamond that is certified by a different lab (EGL, IGI, GCal etc..)?

No. We can only consign diamonds certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or the American Gem Society Laboratory (AGS), due to overwhelming demand for our quality service and the requirements of our discriminating customer base.

How do I ship my item to you? Can I meet face-to-face?
