Diamond Carat

A carat is a measurement of WEIGHT, not size, as often confused.

A carat is divided into 100 points. For example, a one-half carat stone weighs .50 carats or 50 points. There are five carats in one gram - or one carat equals 200 milligrams.

1ct.(Carat) = 100pts.(Points)
1/2ct. (0.50ct.) = 50pts.
5cts = 1g

A diamond's carat weight directly affects its value. Small stones of high color and clarity are easier to find than larger ones. So, the larger the stone's size and weight, the greater its value and cost.

Based strictly on weight, diamonds are incredibly valuable. The heavier the diamond, the rarer and the more valuable it is.

Washington Diamond specializes in superior quality GIA or AGS certified diamonds of all shapes from 1/2 ct. and up for engagement rings.
