Cleaning & Inspection

Proper care and regular maintenance for your fine jewelry is important, just like caring for your car or home is.

We recommend that your Washington Diamond jewelry comes in at least every six months for free routine check ups. A visit usually takes less than thirty minutes and is done while you wait.

Our goldsmith will check your jewelry for loose stones and worn prongs. Then all stones will be tightened and the piece will be polished so it looks just like new. Lastly, our goldsmith will give your jewelry a 'spa treatment' by cleaning it with a combination of an ultrasonic soak and a high pressure blast of steam.

This is a great benefit that keeps your jewelry in top condition and looking great all the time. Don't be one of those people who lets gunk build up under your diamonds and sit there for years; you'll be losing out on the full beauty of your jewelry and the compliments of admirers.

When the time comes, you can schedule this cleaning visitation by calling 703-536-3600.

Please don't delay coming in for your regular cleaning, polishing, and inspection.

Between cleanings in the store we recommended exercising regular at home care. A cleaning kit is provided by compliment at the time of purchase, this is an easy way to keep your rings sparkling on a daily basis.

At least once a week clean your jewelry with the provided toothbrush and detergent paying close attention to any open areas near prongs or underneath your diamonds. Be sure to let any freshly cleaned jewelry dry thoroughly overnight to prevent moisture from getting trapped and irritating your hand.

Fine jewelry should be treated as such and shouldn’t be worn in certain environments, such as the gym, during regular chores like cleaning, gardening or other dirt prone activities.

Taking care of your precious pieces now will ensure that they will last for future generations.

In addition to our professional cleaning service, there are many things you can do to keep your jewelry clean and protected:

First, store your fine jewelry in ring or jewelry boxes or protective pouches. This is especially important for all gemstone rings and pearls.

Do not use strong household cleaners on any jewelry! Ammonia, chlorine and bleach, and other chemical detergents are too strong for jewelry. Mild liquid soaps and warm water is best.

Also, only diamonds, sapphires, and rubies are safe to be put into a sonic jewelry cleaner.
A soft bristle brush or toothbrush can be used to remove dirt and debris from the underside of your diamonds, sapphires, or rubies. Due to their hardness, this will not harm them.

Remember to soak them in warm soapy water for several minutes first. Do not use this technique on any other gemstones.
