There’s a romantic element to a story that begins with a man on a motorcycle, some diamonds, and a dream. In 1969, the days of Easy Rider with the strains of Born to Be Wild on the radio, Robert O. Daube began our story with a unique idea to share his love of diamonds, quality jewelry and the nontraditional. Spinning off from his father’s antique, he roared throughout the greater Washington DC area on his motorcycle from Bethesda to Georgetown to Falls Church, as a diamond dealer and jewelry expert.
Along the way, as he was seeking estate jewelry, buying and selling diamonds, Robert touched each of his clients with his commitment to integrity and to their satisfaction. He acquired the most treasured asset we still hold dear today: the reputation for unparalleled service, the highest quality gems, and outstanding reliability.
Integrity, Fairness, And Extraordinary Service
Robert created his business model on a foundation of integrity. Daube’s Jewelry grew into a family business when Robert’s brother Richard entered the scene in 1974.
However, it was in 1981 when Tom, the youngest Daube brother joined the business, that deeper roots formed. Together they created their secret to success through a simple mantra: Take exceptional care of each customer, be a contribution to their happiness, and be fair.
As the business continued to evolve, Robert and Tom were honored for their industry contributions and were invited into the prestigious New York Diamond Dealers Club. With the reputation for exceptional work with customers as well as with the best of jewelers in the Washington DC area, and around the country, the brothers again expanded the reach and renamed the organization as Washington Diamond.
We’ve never operated like every – or any - other jewelry store. We created a unique environment, and we continue to embrace the passion for providing a special experience for everyone we meet. Everyone on our staff becomes a fine jewelry expert. Through Tom's leadership, we learn the value of knowledge and communication, and most importantly, how to listen.
Our Unique Approach
Constant In The Face Of Change
All too often, with change comes uncertainty. For us, constant in the face of change is the family we are, and the values Robert Daube initiated for our business. In 2000 this continued through his retirement, when Tom stepped up to lead, and then later in 2017 through the sadness of his passing.
For Washington Diamond, if Robert’s legacy remains its touchstone, it’s Tom who is its heart and soul. We keep the dream alive and fresh to navigate changing times, and stay grounded in our purpose.
Through the years times have changed, our commitment to the customers we serve and the joy they invite us to share, has held strong and fast. We create a warm, intimate space in our studio so that each and every person feels special and valued. Our relationships with customers, as we help them celebrate their most meaningful milestones, are just like diamonds, lasting forever and shining bright.
