Here at Washington Diamond, we meet many couples who ask us how we create our custom fine jewelry in house. Crafting a stunning piece of jewelry that has such significant meaning to our valued clients is a serious matter. From the very first step of the process, we make sure that intricate and extensive care is given.

We believe it is our duty to educate, communicate and work together with our clients to craft a ring that suits his or her wishes and lifestyle. While engagement rings can be made in many different ways, we’re going to dive into the usual process involved in constructing an incredible custom-made ring:

The first step of the process involves meeting the client to discuss the style they have in mind. General questions such as the size and shape of the center stone, preferences for the setting or whether they want accent diamonds, are usually discussed during this stage.

Choosing the metal type and the size of the center stone is a crucial step since these choices significantly affect the ring’s overall structure. These determine the setting type, the band’s width, and the number of prongs needed to hold the diamond in place. Once settled, other design elements such as additional stones, metal flourishes and more can be added in.

The next stage usually involves creating a custom rendering of the ring using advanced design technology and computer imaging. This digital design serves as the base from where a wax mold is made before being cast into metal. The metal is heated, melted and very carefully poured into the mold. Once it is cool, the plaster is broken off, leaving the metal form of the ring.

The setting stage comes next. Expert craftsmen first set the center stone, before setting the accent diamonds or gemstones. The goal is to achieve a consistent and cohesive look. The custom engagement ring is then polished, ensuring that a smooth and even finish is maintained and that there are no dents, scratches and air bubbles.

Lastly, the engagement ring is thoroughly inspected and cleaned using a combination of steam and ultrasonic cleaning. Steam is an excellent tool for clearing out even the smallest dirt. Once cleaned, experts ensure that the stones are set well and that everything looks as it should.

Every couple is unique and one-of-a-kind. Washington Diamond knows that every couple deserves an amazing engagement ring that suits their love story. Book an appointment with us to find out how we can make your dream engagement ring come to life.
